So I'm looking to get back into talkers and muds and all that. I had a jaws friendly client years ago but I can't remember the name or even if it's still around. Soooo, any links to screen reader friendly internet relay chat clients would be mucho appreciated.

Peace, love and flower power,

Imp

I think people have had more or less success with ChatZilla, the plug-in for Firefox, which does your IRC sessions in a separate tab.
There's Adium on the mac, but I've had minimal success with that.

www.thefudge.net

I use Pidgin in GUI Linux; what about Miranda in Windows? It's much like Pidgin. Back in my Windows-using days, I used mirc with some scripts that speech-enabled it.

Hi.
I don't know if what I am going to say is right, but i think there is a web bassed irc here.
http://www.oftc.net/
You write a nickname and you choose a channel and you can chat there but I don't know if it supports all channels from each server.
At least that's what nvda is using for chat between the users and the developers.

By the way you type #nvda to go to the nvda channel and chat.

Which reminds me: There's chatzilla, a Firefox extension.

Hello, I thought IRC died out. Many years ago I used something called mircspeech and bofhnet. I'll definately have a look at the websites mentioned in the previous posts.

It's nice to see that these chat sites are still alive. I remember using Accessible Chat, but that's as far as I went. I did, however, once try something called AMC or something like that. I can't find it at the moment. But basically, it was very simple and easy to use, with an input and an output window, toggled by tab and shift tab. I would like to find this program again if I can.

Internet relay chat (IRC) is still alive and well.
Some programs I find helpful are the free Mega IRC and InstantBird applications.

Talking irc has an accessible browser-based chat client. You can find it at talkingirc.net
